Donny Cates is one of the hottest writers at Marvel right now and Ryan Stegman is one of my favorite artists, especially when it comes to Spider-Man based characters. It is no surprise that I am excited for Venom #1 and this first issue for Fresh Start doesn’t disappoint. The internal dialogue of Eddie Brock and the symbiote plays out as it should, with Eddie medicating himself to get some time away from his friend. However, what happens when Eddie loses control and Venom starts acting on it’s own? That is the question presented in this issue, as well as a glimpse into the secret history of Venom. Eddie Brock wasn’t the first host for the symbiote, and Flash Thompson wasn’t the first to use it for the government. What kind of trouble will Venom get in hunting down the truth? Tons, but this lethal protector is going to get an answer, one way or another.
iRate Reviews is the show where I go over specific comic books from my pickup that deserve to be talked about and review them in a little bit more depth. This doesn’t mean that they are always good though. Some comics are lessons in what NOT to do.
